Durga Puja and Diwali Sale in Australia
Puja and Diwali fall in spring here, not autumn, and that changes what is comfortable to wear. This page collects our festive markdowns for both — sarees, suits, gowns and co-ord sets, all priced in AUD with free delivery across Australia.
Dressing through the five days of Durga Puja
Most families do not wear one outfit for Puja, they wear several. Shashthi and Saptami tend to be the relaxed days, when a cotton or light georgette salwar kameez is plenty. Ashtami is the one people dress up for — morning anjali at the pandal, then visiting through the afternoon, so a good saree or a well-cut anarkali earns its place. Navami evening is for the heavier embroidery and the deeper colours. Bijoya Dashami brings the traditional red and white, and for many Bengali families sindoor khela afterwards, which is a sensible reason to keep that outfit simple and washable. Browse the full saree collection if nothing on this page is right for the day you have in mind.
Dressing for Diwali
Diwali runs its own five days, and the dressing builds the same way. Dhanteras and Choti Diwali are usually day wear — something bright rather than heavy. Lakshmi Puja night is the one worth planning for, when a lehenga, a floor-length gown or a silk anarkali suits the occasion and photographs beautifully under diyas and fairy lights. Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj are family visiting days, where a co-ord set or a comfortable sharara makes far more sense than anything you have to keep adjusting.
What is actually on this page
Most of what is reduced here is suits — salwar kameez and anarkalis — with sarees, floor-length gowns, co-ord sets, sharara and gharara sets and the occasional kaftan alongside them. It is women's wear on this page; the men's festive markdowns sit separately in the Men Sale, and everything women's is also gathered in the Women Sale.
A note on fabric for an Australian spring
This is the part most festive guides get wrong for anyone living here. Puja and Diwali arrive in Kolkata and Delhi as the weather cools; in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane they arrive as it warms up. A heavy velvet or a fully worked silk that would be perfect there can be genuinely uncomfortable at an afternoon function in October. Georgette, organza, chiffon and cotton hold their shape through a warm day and travel better to a hall or a friend's house. Save the weight for an evening event, or for Melbourne, where the evenings still turn cool.
Ordering in time for the festival
Popular sizes go first on a sale page, and they are not restocked — once a size is gone from a discounted piece, that is usually the end of it. If an item is made to order, the product page will say so and stitching adds time on top of delivery, so order those a few weeks ahead rather than a few days. Check the women's size chart before you buy, since sizes here are numeric and follow bust measurement rather than Australian 8, 10 and 12; the wider size guide covers the rest of the family.
Dressing the whole family
For men, the discounted kurtas and kurta pyjama sets are in the Men Sale. For children, see kids ethnic wear, with kids lehengas and boys kurtas for the festival itself. If you want festive pieces beyond the reduced ones, the Festival and Eid collection carries the full range.
